Does your cat like to eat a Spider Plant? Is it poisonous for pets?
My cat loves to chew the Spider Plant (Chlorophytum comosum). Sometimes I am not fast enough and he eats some of the leaves. Is it poisonous for cats or I can let him eat my Spider Plant a little for his stomach? Thank you!
My cat just loves the Spider Plant. I have to keep my plants up somewhere he cannot reach them, otherwise they will be all eaten. My cat was chewing the leaves and then immediately was throwing everything up. Seems nothing happened to him and he is just fine.
Chlorophytum comosum or the Spider Plant is famous for being popular among cats. 🙂 According to the ASPCA (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals), the Spider plant is not toxic to felines or other pets. Despite the fact that it is not poisonous, the ASPCA warns that eating this plantcan still be potentially harmful to animals. Studies have found that this plant does, indeed, give off a mild hallucinogenic effect to felines. Spider plants contain chemical compounds related to opium, which can still cause an upset stomach, vomiting and diarrhea. So, I would recommend to keep cats away from the plants to avoid any Spider plant (Chlorophytum comosum) toxicity.
All cats love the spider plant. According to the North Dakota State University Extension Service, cats may be especially fascinated by spider plants, similarly as to catnip due to its slightly hallucinogenic effect to felines, though it is quite harmless. Keep your kittens away from it though and don;t let adult cats eat it excessively.
