What is this plant with red-rosy flowers and big leaves?
Please help me to identify this tropical shrub. Its leaves are quite big and the plant itself is tall and upright, with many small red and light red, rosy flowers on top. I saw it on Sumatra island, Indonesia. Thank you.
This is the Pagoda Flower, (Clerodendrum paniculatum), also known as Hanuman Kireetam, Orange Tower Flower, Clerodendron. Pagoda plant is native to tropical Asia and Papuasia (southern China including Taiwan, Indochina, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Borneo, Sulawesi, Sumatra, Philippines, Bismarck Archipelago).
It is reportedly naturalized in India, Fiji, French Polynesia, and Central America. Clerodendrum paniculatum is a frost-tender, suckering, evergreen, multi-stemmed shrub.
The pagoda flower is popular as an ornamental plant and known for its medicinal uses. Antipyretic and anti-inflammatory properties of the plant have been verified, as well as antiviral activity.
