What is this?

We have a magical mystery yard, where random plants pop up each year. Last year it was 15 ft tall hollyhocks and a random squash plant that grew to about 20 ft long.
This year, this thing appeared killing my bougainvillea. It looks like corn or sorghum, but we have no idea where it came from. (I’ll post a pic as soon as I figure out how).

PS–it’s growing next to our pool deck…???

    Hi!! Without a picture and just according to your description  I can suggest a couple of names 🙂  Celosia? Amaranth?
