Would you help me identify this bush?
Would you please help me identify this bush? One person said it was a hackberry bush, but everything I look up only talks about hackberry trees, not bushes. In addition to identifying can anyone tell me if I need to cut this back? As you can see it has new growth, but the dead leaves are going no where. I am in Oklahoma City. Thank you.
Ok…I believe this is actually Indian Hawthorn. I just talked with a nursery here and describes do the plant. They said they have never had this happen to theirs until this past winter when it was cold/warm/cold/warm. She recommended waiting 2-3 more weeks to see if the whole plant would come back or by then I would know what was dead to prune.
Looks to me like some kind of Berberis, but I am not 100% sure 🙂
I don’t believe it is a Berberis. There are no thorns on the stem or leaves. It does produce white with pink flowers and some berries on the plant are noted.
i am having trouble uploading an images. Any suggestions?
Yes, maybe you are right. I was looking into Azalea too, but yes, it looks more like a stressed Indian Hawthorn. Good advice to wait some time before pruning.
Dear Jetengines, please let us know what kind of problems you have uploading images. Are there any notifications/error messages on the screen?
How big are the images?
Are you using a mobile or a computer?
Thank you! Appreciate your answers!
I would guess, it is Pittosporum tobira Nanum, but it could be also Indian Hawthorn (Rhaphiolepis indica). Just need to check the leaves. Pittosporum has a rounded leaf with smooth edges. Rhaphiolepis has toothed edges on the leaf.
